How to Choose Car Speakers

A buyer's sequence for building a car speaker shortlist from a factory catalogue — fitment, figures, then commercial terms.

Start from the vehicle, not the catalogue

Car speaker selection fails most often at fitment, not sound. Before comparing models, fix four facts about the vehicle programme: the mounting size at each location (4 inch, 6.5 inch, 6x9 and 8 inch cover most of this catalogue), the mounting depth available, whether a separate tweeter location exists, and the amplifier or head unit that will drive the system.

Build the system in layers

A complete car system from this catalogue combines: subwoofers for the low band (33 models, 6 to 18 inch), midrange speakers for the vocal band (75 models), super tweeters for the top (122 models), and coaxial or component speakers where one location must do everything (42 models). Most retail programmes do not need all four layers — a coaxial upgrade programme and a full component-plus-sub programme are different products for different customers.

Use published figures where they exist

  • Compare RMS power, not headline wattage: titles carry wattage figures whose basis is not stated consistently; the specified models' tables state both (for example 100 W RMS / 200 W maximum on the MD-65S23-06).
  • Check impedance against the amplifier: 4 ohm is the car standard here, and several models publish 4/6/8 ohm variants — confirm the variant at order time.
  • Use sensitivity to predict output per watt: specified models in this catalogue publish from 89 dB to 106 dB depending on family.
  • Confirm mounting depth and cutout from the sample, not the title — shallow locations need the slim models and a confirmed depth figure.

Then run the commercial checks

Ask the sales team to confirm, per shortlisted model: the MOQ (model FAQs publish terms such as 500 pieces with an OEM box and 200 without, for the models that carry FAQs), sample terms, packing quantities, and lead time in the written quotation. Order samples of the final shortlist and measure them in the actual door or enclosure before committing the programme.

Send your target model and quantity

Tell us the model, size and quantity you are sourcing. Ask the sales team to confirm the specification, minimum order quantity, packaging and lead time for your exact model in the written quotation before you place an order.
