Shallow Mount Subwoofers
Slim subwoofers for installs where mounting depth is the binding constraint — and the slim models this catalogue actually publishes.
What "shallow mount" means
A shallow mount (or slim) subwoofer is built with a reduced mounting depth so it can be installed where a conventional subwoofer will not fit — behind or under vehicle seats, in slim enclosures against a cabin wall, or in compact PA cabinets. The trade is mechanical: a shallower basket and motor leave less room for cone excursion, so a slim design gives up some maximum output and low-frequency extension in exchange for fitting the space at all.
Slim models in this catalogue
The GRANVOZ catalogue does not run a separate slim subwoofer family. The slim-titled models sit in the woofer family — including a 15 inch 350 W slim subwoofer and steel-frame 15 inch slim woofer models — and they are listed below exactly as published:
- 15 Inch 350w Slim Subwoofer
- Steel 15 Inch Slim Woofer 8 Ohm 1100 Watts MD15N401
- 6.5 Inch Slim Woofer With Tweeter Cup PS-0106-10
- 6.5 Inch Slim Woofer PS-0106-10
- 8 Inch Full Range Slim Woofer With Tweeter Cup PS-0108-22
- 8 Inch Full Range Slim Woofer PS-0108-22
Choosing a slim model
- Measure the available mounting depth first, and ask the sales team to confirm the mounting depth of the exact model — depth is the whole point of the format and is not stated in the catalogue titles.
- Ask for the model's rated RMS power and impedance in the quotation; slim models in this catalogue are catalogue listings without published specification tables.
- Match the enclosure volume to the driver: ask the sales team for the Thiele-Small parameters of the model — the company states that its sound testing provides T/S parameters for its speakers.
- If depth is not constrained, compare against the standard-depth subwoofer range — a conventional model of the same size will usually offer more excursion headroom.
